If you ever wanted to be part of AAJA Portland’s Board of Directors, now’s your chance! We’re calling for nominees to run for our 2027 board.
The board meets monthly to plan activities, programs and fundraisers as well as discuss issues relevant to the chapter and members.
All positions have one-year terms, from Jan. 1, 2027, to Dec. 31, 2027. You must be a dues-paying AAJA member to serve on the board. No board experience is necessary.
You may nominate yourself or someone else (please check with them first!). Nominations and candidate statements are due via this Google form by 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026.
Here’s more about the open board positions.
President: The president will oversee all activities of the chapter and will act as its chief executive officer. This person shall preside at all meetings of the membership and at all meetings and is the chief spokesperson and advocate of the local chapter. The president also attends quarterly national board meetings throughout the year.
Treasurer:
Treasurer: The treasurer will be responsible for all fiscal activities of the chapter. This person manages the chapter’s bank account and financial records, as well as forecasts spending and earnings for the year.
Secretary:
Secretary: The secretary will be responsible for making and maintaining meeting minutes and documentation of other chapter activities. The secretary is also responsible for digital and email communications.
National Board Representative:
National board representative: The national board rep is the chapter’s advocate and liaison to the national board and office. AAJA Portland must be represented at the two virtual advisory board meetings held every year. The board representative will keep the Portland chapter board up-to-date on national policies and procedures.
Student Representative:
Student representative: The student representative serves as an advocate for students and their needs. They help organize activities and promote AAJA Portland on their campus, and help liaise with other campuses. They field questions from academic staff and students, work to increase student membership and engage in membership outreach. The student representative must be an enrolled student at a high school or university.
Vice Presidents:
Vice presidents: These positions help organize programs and events, develop relationships with sponsors and assess potential avenues for fundraising, community development and the chapter organization. These positions also help coordinate AAJA Portland’s internship and awards programs.
