Oct. 18: AAJA PDX joins SPJ’s ‘Build a Better Journalist Conference’ in Eugene

On Saturday, Oct. 18, the AAJA Portland chapter joined other regional journalism associations in partnering with SPJ Oregon to organize the “Build a Better Journalist Conference” at Allen Hall, home of the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication.

The all-day conference featured sessions on a wide range of topics, from using artificial intelligence to filing public records requests, aimed at both journalism students and experienced professionals.

AAJA Portland’s internship and award manager Amy Wang moderated the session “Internships Part Deux,” with treasurer Elliot Njus and fundraising manager Myers Reece as panelists.

The conference drew dozens of students, educators and professionals from across the Pacific Northwest. Held every fall, it serves as a platform for training, workshops and panels that help journalists sharpen their skills and advance in the industry.
